Description for Application Engineer II:
The Application Engineer is responsible for the interface between customers and internal factory engineers for new engine application development. The Application Engineer is mainly responsible for pre-sales customer/technical support, customization of new engine configurations, engine installation testing, preparing test reports, and developing new engine kits.
Responsibilities for Application Engineer II:
- Advise customers about technical issues, product performance, and other concerns
- Travel to customer locations to perform engine testing and application reviews
- Prepare application reports and compile test data
- Prepare sample engine for customers with the help of dynamometer technicians.
- Develop engine kits and assist vendors with kits when required
- Monitor and recommend new techniques to improve engineering and product performance
- Consult with coworkers, including those located in Japan, regarding engineering theory, technical issues, and application techniques
- Develop technical bulletins, instruction material, engine specification sheets, etc.
- Prepare and provide training to engine distributors and other personnel as needed
- Communicate, organize, and maintain confidential information and material
- Support co-workers in other departments as needed
- Inform Manager of all noteworthy activities
- Follow safety guidelines and department and corporate policies and procedures
Requirements for Application Engineer II:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering field
- 5 years’ experience with industrial diesel engines or a similar product; engine installation
- Thorough knowledge of the engineering and mechanics involved in the installation and operation of diesel and gasoline engines
- Ability to test engines using test equipment as follows:
- Cooling System Evaluation (Air-to-boil Testing)
- Engine Vibration Measurement & Optimization
- Air Intake System Evaluation
- Exhaust System & Evaluation
- Exhaust After-treatment System Evaluation (Catalyst, DPF Regeneration, SCR Systems)
- Electrical System Evaluation
- Etc.
- Able to use a variety of tools and test equipment
- Knowledge of Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol and diagnosis
- Experience and knowledge of emissions related work, a plus
- Knowledge of electrical testing and oscilloscope usage
- Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal
- Ability to comprehend a variety of instructions, both oral and written
- Ability to multi-task, establish priorities and meet deadlines, maintain a flexible attitude and approach towards assignments, and maintain level of organization in a changing and fast paced environment
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with all internal & external customers.
- Ability to be tactful and diplomatic in challenging situations

- Strong problem solving and discernment skills for various decisions. Excellent analytical skills
- Intermediate knowledge of word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications
- Intermediate knowledge of CAD and other engineering tools
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, travel internationally on occasion
