Description for Automation Engineer:
This position is responsible for the engineering, design, integration, and troubleshooting of programmable logic controllers (PLC), human machine interfaces (HMI), and industrial networks for various manufacturing systems, with a focus on improving efficiency, quality and safety in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities for Automation Engineer:
- Evaluate, analyze, and troubleshoot existing automation and control systems
- Revise, troubleshoot and develop PLC and HMI code in Rockwell, Siemens, Iconics and other various platforms
- Analyze and evaluate drawing set documentation, including but not limited to I/O layout (both digital and analog), AC and DC sections of the electrical design, wire numbering per specs, fusing, grounding, and I/O device types (both digital and analog)
- Integrate ladder logic, servo automation, motors, panels, controllers and other interfaces as required
- Recommend and implement new automation technology solutions to improve effectiveness and efficiency, and to reduce operational costs
- Develop and maintain documentation for manufacturing and automation equipment
- Evaluate network design, and deploy related hardware, software and security as needed
- Enhance data logging for manufacturing systems
Requirements for Automation Engineer:
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, computer science) or related discipline
- 5+ years of automation engineering in a manufacturing environment
- Experience setting up, optimizing, and troubleshooting manufacturing lines through the use of automation
- Ability coordinate and lead internal projects with third party integrators
- Experience using RSLogix (ControlLogix, CompactLogix), Transaction Manager software, Siemens, and SQL Server
- Experience training operators and maintenance teams on automation equipment
- Critical, analytical thinker
- Effective problem solver with ability to conduct thorough Root-Cause Analysis
- Highly self-motivated and self-directed
