Description for Marketing & Development Coordinator:

In partnership with our leadership team and the Fund Development Committee of the Board of Directors, the Marketing & Development Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting the organization’s development and communication efforts. The Marketing & Development Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Operations on projects critical to the success of the organization and support the Executive Director as together we build the brand and base of support for Beat the Streets Chicago. This is a good opportunity for someone who is looking to hone a solid repertoire of communications, branding, marketing, social media and fundraising skills while creating positive impact in the sports-based youth development sector. As the organization grows successfully, the Marketing & Development Coordinator role could evolve into a full-time position. 

Success in this position is defined as the Coordinator's ability to contribute meaningfully to our small team, advancing the marketing and development goals of the organization. An excellent Coordinator will take on a significant amount of the day to day tasks of marketing, researching, posting, data management and smaller campaigns, as the Directors focus on strategic initiatives, relationship-building, and major donor cultivation.
 
Responsibilities for Marketing & Development Coordinator: 

  • Cultivating Relationships - support the efforts of the Executive Director and Director of Operations to manage and steward investors. Prepare and send investment acknowledgement letters. Oversee the gratitude initiatives, working with senior leadership, coaches, youth and board members. Coordinate and execute special mailings or e-mailings, including holiday cards and public relations campaigns. 
  • Prospecting and Fundraising - Research and identify potential partners, including major donors, corporate social responsibility partners and grant opportunities. Assist the Director of Operations with grant-writing. Identify fund-raising opportunities for the organization, including in-kind donations, online campaigns and special events. Create mission-based, donor-centric appeals and recognition strategies distributed through a variety of channels including personal contacts, direct mail social media and other correspondence. 
  • Database Management - Maintain development records in our Neon Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. Ensure overall data integrity. Run reports, synthesize information and share frequent updates about current and projective investors with the leadership team. 
  • Communications Campaigns - Research and write blog posts, articles, newsletters and other communication materials highlighting the accomplishments of our students and the work of our coaches, alumni, board and staff. Build national brand awareness and recognition by telling compelling stories in written form and through photographs and videos. 
  • Social Media and Digital Marketing - Create, manage and grow BTSC’s online presence through our website, blog, and social media accounts. Design and implement a thoughtful, engaging social media strategy focused on growing our network of followers. Coordinate general social media strategy with online fundraising efforts. 
  • Giving Group Support - Assist our various giving groups and cohorts, including the Young Professionals, Varsity Club, Board of Directors and other groups that may arise. Help coordinate peer-to-peer giving and sustained giving strategies with these groups. 
  • Event Management - In partnership with the leadership team and volunteer committees assist as required with major fundraising events. Manage smaller functions.

Requirements for Marketing & Development Coordinator: 

  • Education - college degree preferred. Majors that translate well for this position include business, business management, marketing, communications, nonprofit management; other majors will be considered based on experience.

  • A knack for identifying and telling compelling stories 
 
  • Good research skills that will yield actionable and need-to-know information when we are reaching out to major donors, corporations or grant-making foundations 
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and organizational skills 
  • A good eye for design, the ability to curate pictures that speak to the organization’s mission and brand and experience creating meaningful graphics, such as social media posts, invitations, infographics, and similar collateral. Experience using various graphic design and communications programs and platforms such as Canva and MailChimp is required. Knowledge of Photoshop, video-editing, InDesign, WordPress and other tools would be helpful. 
  • Fluent in Google systems, including Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides, Forms, Meets, Calendar 
  • Expected Work Experience Marketing & Development Coordinator
  • Minimum three years or more working in development, marketing or communications 
  • Demonstrated success in managing or supporting marketing, branding and/or development campaigns 
    • Experience working with data sets and technology, including CRM systems, spreadsheets and data sets 
    • Experience working with both adults and youth in a professional setting 3
  • Certifications and licenses 
    • USAW membership card will be required as this provides the required SafeSport child safety training and background check needed to work with youth 
    • Drivers license 
  • Physical Capabilities - position requires significant sitting at a desk in front of a computer. Some light lifting as is typical for an office job may be required. Some physical activity related to setting up and working at a fundraising event, which could include light lifting, standing for long periods of time and setting up displays. May need to drive one of our vans on occasion or run errands on behalf of the organization.

    • Must have a working cell phone (cell phone expense stipend is provided).
    • You are welcome to bring your own laptop; otherwise a Chromebook will be provided. 
    • Spanish is helpful but not required 
    • Knowledge of wrestling is helpful but not required
