Description for Mechanical Engineer:

The primary focus of this role is to specify and implement automation, operator interfaces, and safety systems in support of the manufacturing operations. Lead in the mechanical and technical aspects of projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager. This includes, but is not limited to the design, build, and installation of various projects at the Granite City location. This role will also be responsible for setting project specifications and continual updating to attain and keep pace with business objectives. Lead internal and external engineering and construction teams to successfully conceptualize, build and startup of projects at the Granite City operation, achieving cost and timeline requirements. 

Responsibilities for Mechanical Engineer:

  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices to create solutions for recycling various materials.
  • Work closely with the Industrial Process Engineer to identify areas of opportunity for improvement within various processes. This includes, but is not limited to, the creation and/or updating of existing procedures and best practices.
  • Support specifying, manufacturing, and validating of systems which include hydraulics, pneumatics, servos, motor drives, relays, communication networks, touchscreens, digital and analog i/o, and robotics.
  • Create documentation such as programming diagrams, network diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Specify, install, and maintain additional data acquisition, monitoring, and reporting solutions to provide accurate information to key stakeholders.
  • Lead projects for continuous improvement including communication and training to all levels of the organization. Perform hands-on tasks when necessary to troubleshoot issues or optimize processing of recycled products. Finding lower cost or shorter time solutions for projects and maintenance parts.
  • Provide technical support and training to Maintenance and Production as needed.
  • Act as liaison for Maintenance in an advisory role to problem solve issues as they arise. Creative thinking and outside the box approaches are encouraged.

Requirements for Mechanical Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design, trouble shooting & solving of technical problems. Leadership experience demonstrating the ability to drive projects forward a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of equipment/process optimization techniques and methodologies
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to coordinate projects between departments and planning a flow of tasks beginning to end.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to communicate at any levels, including explanation of technical information to non-technical employees.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Flexible, assertive, stress-tolerant, and optimistic mindset, with a willingness to adapt to evolving project requirements and deadlines.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Self-motivated / Autonomous worker
  • Knowledge of regulatory and safety requirements. Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations throughout the design and production phases.
  • Bring extensive repairs to the engineering team for review, discussion, and decision.
