Description for Mechanical Engineer-Team Lead:

The Mechanical Design Engineer Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the detailed mechanical design of the company's rugged optical transceiver modules and cable assemblies, involving research, testing, and analysis for new product development. This candidate will collaborate with fellow engineers to qualify and manufacture new products, demonstrating both independent problem-solving abilities and leadership qualities in addressing engineering design challenges and customer needs. Additionally, as the leader of the mechanical engineering team, you will provide day-to-day supervision, ensure project completion, offer training, and advise management on technical and soft skills necessary for team success.

Responsibilities for Mechanical Engineer-Team Lead:

  • Performs design research and front-end feasibility for existing and new product introduction by investigating applicable new technologies, materials, and machining techniques; sources new components and piece parts; and identifies new suppliers.
  • Works with other engineers to design new fiber optic transceivers, cables, and termini for rugged applications.
  • Produces the details and modeling for product mechanical design (i.e., housings, covers, optical connector interfaces, and internal mechanical parts) using SolidWorks.
  • Creates and manages work instructions and build procedures relevant to production processes.
  • Leads, plans, reviews, and oversees the daily activities of department team members by reviewing day-to-day schedules and helping to assign team resources based on fluid priorities.
  • Trains other team members and oversees their work to support capacity and employee growth.

Requirements for Mechanical Engineer-Team Lead:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering related technical field
  • Minimum 5+ years of mechanical design experience with similar small components
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and train younger engineers 
  • Strong experience in SolidWorks
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, technical documents, and user manuals 
  • Proficient in analytical, technical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and research skills 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office product
