Description for Network Engineer I:
The Network Engineer I is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operation and maintenance of all city networks for a major municipality.
Responsibilities for Network Engineer I:
- Assist with help desk tickets relating to network connectivity (LAN, Wireless, VPN)
- Create and maintain documentation when needed
- Perform layer 1 troubleshooting (Ethernet, Fiber, Wireless)
- Perform layer 2-7 Network application troubleshooting (ports, IP addresses)
- Execute Cisco/Fortinet Switch Port Configurations
- Work with third party support for network power or break/fix issues
- Help install/uninstall new equipment as needed
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements for Network Engineer I:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and at least one (1) year of work experience in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with Cisco Network troubleshooting
- Microsoft Active Directory experience.
- Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license and ability to pass a criminal background check
- IT and related network certifications are preferred, but not required
