Description of Operations Manager:
The Operations Manager, reporting to the Plant Manager, is a vital part of the senior leadership team and is responsible for leading and coordinating the schedule and activities concerned with production and quality control in the facility. This very important leadership position is responsible for overseeing 3 supervisors and approximately 35 employees who are involved with the production and packaging of materials in the plant.
Responsibilities for Operations Manager:
- Coordinates and leads the daily, weekly, and monthly activities of the production area to ensure production output meets customer demand.
- Collaborate with management to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
- Develop, document, and maintain SOPs/Process Maps.
- Ensures that all Team Members follow client’s safety policies, work rules, and S.O.P.s.
- Coordinates production activities with planning & scheduling teams, warehouses, procurement, and maintenance to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
- Reviews and analyzes production and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems, and implements improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Work with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Provides and/or coordinates training for team members and assists in the continuous development of the training program.
- Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
- Provide the technical interface between lab and operations personnel to ensure processes and methods are transferred effectively.
- Collaborate with production scheduler on priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems.
- Influential capabilities to ensure the team is moving in the right direction and drive ownership.
- Ability to manage with emotional intelligence (soft skills)
- Provide guidance and direction to supporting functional groups in an effective and collaborative way to ensure success for the area.
- Capable of communicating at all levels of the organization.
Requirements for Operations Manager:
- BS in STEM related discipline required, preferably Chemistry or Engineering.
- 5+ years of plant management experience in a batch chemical facility.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Great leadership abilities.
- Proven ability to manage change within a group and build strong interdependent teams.
- Experience troubleshooting equipment and processes.
- Experience with control systems.
Education
- BS in STEM related discipline required, preferably Chemistry or Engineering.
