Description for Quality Supervisor:
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for supporting sustainable quality excellence throughout the production cycle by supervising day-to-day quality activities, reinforcing adherence to established systems and procedures, and maintaining a strong customer focus. This position coordinates the daily work and development of the Quality Assurance team while supporting the Quality Manager with quality objectives and continuous improvement initiatives. The Quality Supervisor works cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, customers, and suppliers to investigate and resolve quality issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities for Quality Supervisor:
- Supervise, coach, and support the daily performance and continued development of Quality Assurance employees.
- Assist with training plans, work assignments, performance feedback, and monitoring departmental effectiveness.
- Support supplier quality activities, including issue investigation, containment, corrective action follow-up, and communication with suppliers as assigned.
- Coordinate the execution of internal and external corrective actions.
- Facilitate cross-functional problem-solving activities and maintain product and process reporting systems.
- Use data-driven problem-solving techniques to determine root cause, verify corrective action effectiveness, and promote continuous improvement.
- Support the maintenance of ISO 9001:2015 certification, including internal audits, documentation, corrective actions, and preparation for recertification and surveillance audits.
- Support the maintenance of AAR M-1003 certification, including internal audits, documentation, corrective actions, and preparation for recertification and surveillance audits.
- Coordinate and maintain assigned APQP and PPAP process deliverables to support internal and external compliance.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of FMEAs, Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, and First Article Inspection documentation.
- Partner with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and other departments to implement management-by-exception, poka-yoke, and critical-to-quality verification processes.
- Directly supervise assigned Quality Assurance employees.
- Participate in interviewing and hiring, training employees, planning and assigning work, providing performance feedback, addressing performance concerns, and resolving employee issues with the Quality Manager and Human Resources.
- Support calibration systems and ensure measurement equipment remains compliant.
- Conduct risk assessments when gauges are found to be out of calibration.
- Monitor quality KPIs including defect rate, internal scrap rate, first pass yield, cost of poor quality, audit finding closure, and CAPA closure time.
- Identify quality risks and lead preventive actions using risk-based thinking and statistical analysis.
- Lead cross-functional teams to resolve systemic quality issues while balancing production, customer, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate layered process audits and ISO/AAR audits.
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented and verified to promote and drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure processes are followed and implemented into work in process for engineering change orders, process changes, new product launches, and deviation approvals.
- Promote a culture of quality, accountability, continuous improvement, and customer focus throughout manufacturing operations.
- Coach inspectors and quality technicians.
- Conduct competency assessments and create training plans.
- Support succession planning and establish clear goals and expectations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements for Quality Supervisor:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of quality experience in manufacturing.
- Previous supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T, manufacturing methods and procedures, work instructions, and manufacturing and quality control plans.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, customer requirements, specifications, and applicable quality standards.
- Ability to prepare clear reports, procedures, work instructions, corrective actions, and other quality documentation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively present information to employees, cross-functional teams, customers, suppliers, and management.
- Knowledge of statistical improvement methods.
- Ability to perform trend analysis, statistical process capability, Pareto analysis, control chart interpretation, process capability studies (CP/CPK), and measurement system analysis (MSA).
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Familiarity with root cause quality tools such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and Fault Tree Analysis.
- Ability to identify quality risks and support preventive actions using risk-based thinking and statistical analysis.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams while balancing production, customer, and regulatory requirements.
Preferred
- Experience with welding processes, especially electrical resistance welding.
- Experience with Minitab or ReliaSoft software.
- Experience with ERP systems, QMS software, Power BI, SAP, SyteLine, QT9, LN, ETQ, or similar software.
- ASQ certification such as CQE, CQT, or CQIA.
