Description for Sales Engineer– Process Automation Specialist:

The Sales Engineer – Process Automation Specialist will be responsible for creating and implementing a sales plans with new and existing customer to meet or exceed annual sales goal objective of Automation and Controls within assigned sales territory for a 60+ year old automation company.

Responsibilities for Sales Engineer– Process Automation Specialist:

  • Consult with clients in a variety of industries to evaluate their current manufacturing processes and recommend automation solutions to increase production efficiencies and cost savings.
  • Develop strategies to penetrate new and existing customers to achieve sales goals.
  • Develop in depth knowledge of decision-making process of major accounts.
  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts within the target industries. 
  • Develop and communicate a needs analysis to understand problems and opportunities of the customer.
  • Provide competitive information and analysis.
  • Provide critical information on market changes and opportunities within assigned territory.
  • Identify, define, prepare, and present solutions to the customer in the form of a technical proposal and quotation.
  • Conduct and maintain the appropriate level of follow up to support medium and long cycle capital sale of control system.
  • Negotiate and close contracts of sale.
  • Transfer job with all required information to provide smooth transition from sales to engineering.
  • Provide information critical to product development and enhancement.
  • Develop and maintain a 3-month rolling forecast for the territory
  • Travel to customer sites on a regular basis, estimated travel time is approximately 50-75%.

 

Requirements for Sales Engineer – Process Automation Specialist:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in engineering or related technical area
  • At least five years of experience in selling process automation and controls, application engineering sales support experience with process automation and controls and/or on-site customer support experience helpful
  • Organization and planning to successfully sell capital equipment, with both medium and long sales cycles.
  • Experience with manufacturing process with the ability to understand manufacturing process flow and read flow diagrams.
  • Experience and desire to manage a large geographic territory with numerous customer sites by identifying and focusing on active projects.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting detailed, technical proposals and quotations.
  • Relationship building skills with the ability to grow and foster effective client relationships
  • Experience with or exposure to the following industries is a significant plus:  Feed & Grain, Pet Food, Food, Asphalt, Concrete, Fertilizer, or Wood Pelleting.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills, SQL experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Project management skills set.
  • Ability to travel 50-75% 

Requirements for Sales Engineer – Process Automation Specialist:

  • Previous experience with PLC programming
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley based PLC’s
  • Experience working with large batch processing manufacturers
  • Exposure to USDA and FDA regulations
