Description for Support Engineer:The Support Engineer will oversee and manage company infrastructure which includes, networks, servers, desktop, access, security, storage, software, hardware, and maintain computer system functionality. The Support Engineer’s role is to ensure the streamlined operation of the IT function in alignment with the business objectives of the organization. This individual will plan, coordinate, direct, and design IT-related activities of the organization, as well as provide support for daily operational IT activities. 

Responsibilities for Support Engineer:

  • Work with all departments to identify, develop, implement, and support technology solutions.
  • Oversee the daily performance of technology systems, including servers, network equipment, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, VOIP phones, and peripherals.
  • Responsible for addressing day-to-day technology issues for end users.
  • Work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.
  • Install software updates and system upgrades as needed.
  • Diagnose hardware and software issues.
  • Evaluate existing systems to improve effectiveness and efficiency, reduce operational costs, and provide solutions to resolve information problems.
  • Recommend and implement new systems to meet current and future needs.
  • Improve existing software programs by reviewing objectives and specifications, evaluating proposed changes, recommending changes, and making modifications.
  • Setup and configure technology equipment for employee use.
  • Provide technical support to all employees. Articulate technical issues into non-technical language.
  • Define and implement IT policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Prepare and update operating instructions for user applications.
  • Train workers in technology systems.
  • Work with external partners, including consultants and vendors, to maintain and update technology systems.

Requirements for Support Engineer: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in IT support, network administration, or systems engineering.
  • Experience in managing IT infrastructure (servers, networks, desktops, and peripherals).
  • Hands-on experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience working with hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with VOIP systems, network protocols, and cloud-based systems.
  • Experience with vendor management and external consultants.
  • Proficient in networking (LAN, WAN, VPN) and network security practices.
  • Proficient in server administration (Windows Server, Linux) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Strong experience with hardware diagnostics, software installations, and system updates.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery processes.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity practices and data protection.
  • Knowledge of VOIP phone systems and telecommunications equipment.
  • Strong communication skills: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work across departments to understand business needs and deliver IT solutions.
  • Project management skills: Ability to oversee and implement IT projects from start to finish.
  • Training: Capable of training employees in IT systems and applications.
  • Attention to detail: Ensuring high accuracy in system updates, configurations, and support tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Proactive mindset to identify potential issues before they impact operations.
  • 24/7 availability or willingness to be on-call for critical system issues.
  • Certifications (preferred): CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or similar certifications is a plus. 
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (Azure, AWS, etc.) is a plus.
