Description for Wireless Network Engineer:
Seeking a Wireless Network Engineer for a 12+ months project. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in conducting wireless site surveys, configuring wireless devices, troubleshooting, and providing support to IT installation teams. The role involves working primarily with Cisco wireless hardware and occasionally requires occasional domestic and international travel. Experience with predictive Wi-Fi survey software such as Fluke AirMagnet is a significant advantage. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently while collaborating effectively within a small team environment.
Responsibilities for Wireless Network Engineer:
- Conduct comprehensive wireless site surveys to analyze and assess wireless network requirements, signal coverage, and performance.
- Utilize software tools, such as Fluke AirMagnet or similar, to conduct predictive Wi-Fi surveys and generate heat maps for accurate network planning.
- Configure and optimize wireless devices, including access points, controllers, and other related equipment, based on site survey results and design specifications.
- Create accurate Bill of Materials (BoM) for wireless deployments based on site survey findings and equipment requirements.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose wireless network issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions to ensure optimal performance.
- Provide technical support to IT installation teams during the deployment and implementation of wireless solutions.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of wireless networks with existing infrastructure.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends in wireless networking.
- Occasionally travel domestically and internationally to support wireless deployment projects.
- Demonstrate self-sufficiency and efficiency while contributing positively to a small team environment.
Requirements for Wireless Network Engineer:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA Wireless, CWNA, CWDP) are a plus. Relevant work experience in wireless networking engineering will be considered in lieu of a degree
- Proven experience (5+ years) in conducting wireless site surveys, configuring wireless devices, and troubleshooting wireless network issues.
- Solid experience with Cisco wireless hardware and related technologies.
- Familiarity with predictive Wi-Fi survey tools such as Fluke AirMagnet or equivalent software.
- Solid understanding of network protocols, routing, switching, subnetting, and IP addressing.
- Knowledge of network LAN switching, Cisco LAN experience is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and address complex wireless network issues.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel occasionally domestically and internationally.
- Experience with network design and security principles is desirable.
