Description for Designer: 

This position is an entry-level, engineering track position, responsible for: applying learned academic engineering experiences to real-life engineering problems; learning new engineering design methodologies; learning in-house engineering software; performing engineering design for components and connections, 3D finite element analysis and design, 3D modeling of structures under guidance of senior staff; learning and performing document preparation in both CAD and BIM environments; and, as requested, managing staff to perform assigned tasks.

Responsibilities for Designer: 

1. Prepare ALL work in accordance with office approved processes, format and standards
2. Work on assigned tasks, under direction of senior engineering staff, performing engineering analyses and calculations
3. Work on assigned tasks, under direction of senior engineering staff, preparing required documents in CAD and BIM format
4. Perform 3D finite element analysis and design under direction of senior engineering staff 

1. Perform tasks accurately and on time with necessary guidance, and proactively seek advice on tasks as needed
2. Meet task deadlines, and adhere to budgeted hours
3. Volunteers to work hours need to meet deadlines
4. Volunteers to work additional hours to assist other (not assigned work) to meet deadlines
5. When asked, works hours needed to meet deadlines
6. When asked, works additional hours to assist others (not assigned work) to meet deadlines
7. Manage other staff members, as required, when assigned as a Task Leader
8. Participate in activities within and outside the office that increase personal engineering capabilities
9. Participate in external/in-house seminars and training activities/sessions
10. Participate in the development of in-house design templates, checklist and standards
11. Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements for Designer:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
2. 0-2 yrs experience in structural analysis/design fundamentals
3. 3D finite element analysis
4. Diaphragm analysis and design.
5. Current building and material codes
6. Commercially available office software (Word, Excel, Adobe/Bluebeam, etc.)
7. BIM and CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Tekla or equivalent
8. engineering software such as RAM suite, Risa, TEDDS, LEC Wall, etc. or equivalent. 

• Able to work long periods (multiple hours) of the day at a computer.
