Description for Sr. Project Manager:
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex capital and process engineering projects across our client’s customer base. This role oversees all phases of the project lifecycle—scope definition, budgeting, resource planning, vendor management, installation, and commissioning—while ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards. The Senior Project Manager also contributes to capital strategy, interfaces directly with key stakeholders, and leads internal and external teams to ensure safe, on-time, and within-budget delivery.
Responsibilities for Sr. Project Manager:
- Lead capital projects from planning through commissioning, covering facility upgrades, new equipment, automation, and safety enhancements.
- Create detailed scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource plans that meet internal requirements and client needs.
- Serve as the main contact for clients, vendors, contractors, and consultants to keep everyone aligned.
- Manage project kickoff meetings, track milestones, address risks, and handle project closeouts with post-project reviews.
- Ensure all deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations.
- Coordinate technical work across disciplines like mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering.
- Review and approve design packages, including P&IDs, schematics, equipment specs, and installation drawings.
- Provide technical support and collaborate with operations and plant teams to resolve design or construction challenges.
- Assist field teams during commissioning, validation, and startup phases.
- Prepare complete RFPs and bid packages for electrical, mechanical, and controls work.
- Assess bids and lead vendor or contractor selection based on cost, capability, and compliance.
- Oversee contractor performance for safety, quality, schedule, and problem resolution.
- Manage contractor mobilization, on-site work, integration, and startup.
- Support annual capital planning by identifying projects that align with business goals.
- Make sure all work follows USDA, FDA, OSHA, NEC, NFPA, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Stay informed on changing industry regulations and best practices, applying them proactively.
- Maintain clear communication with teams, leadership, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Document project decisions, design updates, site conditions, and critical correspondence accurately and promptly.
- Prepare and deliver project status reports, forecasts, and cost updates to stakeholders.
- Keep organized, complete, and auditable project files and closeout records.
- Supervise, mentor, and guide both internal and external project team members.
- Provide performance feedback, support development plans, and help resolve conflicts.
- Build a collaborative, accountable team culture focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Work primarily in an office but frequently visit industrial sites, customer plants, or vendor locations.
- Be physically able to walk job sites, inspect equipment, and participate in construction and startup tasks.
- Expect exposure to varying noise levels and environmental conditions in the field.
- Be available for overtime, including evenings or weekends, during peak project phases.
- Use PPE and follow all required safety training when on-site.
Requirements for Sr. Project Manager:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related STEM discipline.
- At least 10 years of experience in project management or engineering, ideally involving capital equipment, systems integration, or industrial facility improvements.
- Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role or leading technical teams.
- Background working in USDA or FDA regulated settings is a plus.
- Demonstrated success managing complex capital projects from initial design through commissioning.
- Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, P&IDs, schematics, and technical drawing review.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with a track record of effective cross-functional teamwork.
- Skilled in solving problems, resolving conflicts, and making sound decisions under pressure.
- Proficient with Microsoft Project as well as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Solid business judgment with the ability to handle budgets, risks, and schedules effectively.
- Must hold a valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Ability to secure a valid passport for international assignments if needed.
