Description for Technical Project Manager: 

The Technical Project Manager position within the design engineering team focused on New Product Development for safety equipment. The position oversees complex technical projects through the stage-gate process, manages detailed project plans and scopes, coordinates daily with cross-functional and international teams, and works closely with outside design houses. The role includes synchronizing activities across global teams, ensuring regulatory compliance with industry standards, preparing stage-gate review packages, and maintaining organized project documentation from development through release. The Technical Project Manager also collaborates with Product Management and Supply Chain to manage the entire product lifecycle.

 

Responsibilities for Technical Project Manager:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive project schedules that align with the stage-gate process, tracking progress and making adjustments as needed.
  • Define project scopes, charters, and specifications to position projects for success from the outset.
  • Oversee external design firms with clear scopes of work and ongoing oversight.
  • Coordinate tasks and resources across international teams in the USA, Italy, and India.
  • Work closely with engineering teams on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to ensure milestones are met and stakeholders are kept informed.
  • Inspire team members and use strong interpersonal skills to achieve project goals in a collaborative environment without direct authority.
  • Identify potential risks early and implement mitigation plans to minimize impacts on timelines or quality.
  • Prepare stage-gate review materials, including risk assessments, design reviews, and financial summaries, and secure leadership approval to advance projects.
  • Build a deep understanding of Hazardous Locations and Intrinsic Safety standards and manage partners to achieve compliance certifications such as UL, CSA, ATEX, and SGS.
  • Organize all project documents in SharePoint and manage the release to the ERP system.
  • Use project management software to generate Gantt charts and resource plans.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Supply Chain to support the full product lifecycle.

Requirements for Technical Project Manager:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Technical Project Manager or in a similar role.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the strengths and limitations of stage-gate development processes.
  • Proficient in project management software for creating Gantt charts and resource allocation; experience with Wrike, DevOps, and Microsoft tools is a plus.
  • Experience managing external product compliance and approval processes.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects at once and perform well under pressure.
