Description for Design Engineer:
The Design Engineer develops and designs mechanical and electronic components, creating detailed 3D models and performing calculations, simulations, and analyses to ensure functionality, performance, and safety. They select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, develop and test prototypes, and refine designs based on results. The role includes leading and managing multiple design projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure feasibility and production readiness, preparing and maintaining technical documentation, and ensuring compliance with industry standards such as AS9100D. The engineer works closely with stakeholders to meet project requirements and deliver products from concept through production.
Responsibilities for Design Engineer:
- Design and Development: Create detailed designs for products, components, or systems using SolidWorks; perform calculations, simulations, and analyses to ensure performance, safety, and functionality; select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes including machining, injection molding, and back-potting.
- Project Management: Lead and manage multiple design projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and scope; coordinate with cross-functional teams such as engineering, manufacturing, quality, and procurement; liaise with clients or internal stakeholders to understand requirements and provide updates.
- Documentation and Compliance: Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and project plans; ensure designs comply with AS9100D and other relevant industry standards.
- Prototyping and Testing: Develop and test prototypes to validate design concepts and performance; analyze test results, identify issues, and refine designs as needed.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with stakeholders, provide updates on project status, and ensure designs are production-ready.
- Problem-Solving: Address design challenges and implement solutions to improve product performance and manufacturability.
Requirements for Design Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5–8 years of design engineering experience in an AS9100 environment, preferably with connectors or electronic components.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for creating detailed designs.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, injection molding (plastic and silicon), and back-potting.
- Understanding of GD&T.
- Experience leading and managing design projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to develop, test, and refine prototypes.
- Familiarity with AS9100D quality standards.
