Description for Production Control Specialist:
The Production Control Specialist oversees the flow of materials and production activities to ensure manufacturing plans are executed efficiently and customer commitments are met. This role focuses on balancing inventory, capacity, and demand, maintaining accurate schedules in the ERP system, and coordinating closely with manufacturing, sales, and shipping to support on time delivery, production changes, and business objectives.
Responsibilities for Production Control Specialist:
- Establish manufacturing plans that consider capacity and inventory levels
- Develop and maintain production schedules aligned with material plans
- Review inventory and capacity and submit updates to the master schedule
- Manage and process customer change requests in a timely manner
- Maintain and update ERP data to support smooth ordering and production flow
- Manage material ramp up and ramp down activities in the ERP system
- Communicate with Manufacturing and Sales when customer ship dates are at risk
- Coordinate with Shipping to support on time customer delivery
- Develop, track, and report key performance indicators
- Manage material planning parameters for procured and fabricated products
- Expedite materials as required to support production and customer needs
- Run daily reports to identify late materials and adjust due dates as needed
- Ensure business plan objectives and customer requirements are met while balancing supplier lead times, capacity, and inventory
- Coordinate production activities for new product introductions, phase outs, and obsolescence
- Release and manage job orders to support shop floor operations
- Coordinate customer order expedites with Sales and manufacturing teams
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Materials Management leadership
Requirements for Production Control Specialist:
- Three plus years of materials planning or scheduling experience in a manufacturing environment
- ERP and MRP experience with strong computer skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and operate effectively in a fast paced environment
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision making abilities
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Continuous improvement mindset with a strong customer focus
- Familiarity with ISO or TS requirements
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, supply chain management, and inventory control
