Description for Controls Engineer: 

This role is responsible for designing, upgrading, and maintaining control systems across our client’s manufacturing floor, supporting a wide range of automated equipment such as mechanical and hydraulic presses, diecast furnaces, CNC machines, power supplies, and power generation sets. The position involves hands-on participation in preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and continuous improvement efforts, as well as collaborating with both internal personnel and external contractors. Key responsibilities include creating and updating engineering documentation, developing and troubleshooting control logic, implementing process improvements, and utilizing diagnostic tools such as voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and ammeters. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of manufacturing operations while fostering strong working relationships throughout the organization. 

Responsibilities for Controls Engineer:

  • Creation, revision, and application of engineering documentation including maintenance work orders, lock-out tag-out procedures, preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives, service and troubleshooting manuals, machine specifications, plant layouts, blueprints, schematics/control diagrams, etc.
  • Developing and implementing program logic to new machines, upgrading existing machines, and troubleshooting/maintaining existing manufacturing equipment controls.
  • Hands on participation in maintenance related functions including PM projects, reactive repairs, and continual improvement.
  • Investigation and implementation of process improvement opportunities related to maintenance and manufacturing procedures.
  • Utilizing test equipment, such as ammeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, high potential testers, phase testers, mega-ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, accelerometers, etc. for troubleshooting and PM purposes.
  • Scheduling and executing preventative and reactive repairs to machines and facilities.
  • Performing research to resolve issues.

Requirements for Controls Engineer: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or controls engineering.
  • 5+ years’ experience in troubleshooting, repair, and service of manufacturing and facility equipment.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in Autocad/Solidworks.
  • Experience with industrial electronics in CNC machine control, PLC/Relay logic controls, AC/DC drives, servo motors, etc.
  • Understanding and experience with motors, transformers, and generators.
  • Experience regarding hydraulic and pneumatic repair/service.
  • General machine tool experience.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.
  • The ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Creative problem-solving and independent decision making.
  • Self-starter, innovative, and team oriented.
  • Professional communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Initiative and creativity; must be able to produce high quality work on tight schedules and be willing to work odd hours when necessary.
  • Electrical knowledge (DC and AC) and industrial power distribution systems (switchgear, busway, etc.)
  • Experience with Mod-bus, networking, a diverse range of logic languages, and ability to integrate all.
