Description for Design Engineer:
The Design Engineer will be responsible for developing and refining mechanical and structural components, with a focus on sheet metal and welded assemblies. This role involves creating detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and fabrication specifications to support manufacturing and assembly processes. The engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to optimize designs, troubleshoot production challenges, and improve product efficiency and quality. They will also maintain and update engineering documentation, generate bills of material, and ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with project goals. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to complex mechanical systems while being part of a growing engineering team.
Responsibilities for Design Engineer:
- Develop mechanical and structural designs for components and assemblies, focusing on sheet metal and welded construction.
- Create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and specifications to support fabrication and assembly.
- Apply engineering calculations to ensure designs meet functional, quality, and manufacturability requirements.
- Troubleshoot fabrication or assembly questions and provide support to production staff.
- Collaborate with other engineers on design improvements and efficiency enhancements.
- Maintain and update engineering documents, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Evaluate material usage, cost, and manufacturability for components and assemblies.
- Coordinate with teams to resolve design issues and optimize component layouts.
- Generate bills of material, part numbers, and documentation within ERP systems.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to meet project timelines.
- Adjust priorities and tasks based on production or project needs.
- Suggest or implement design improvements and best practices.
Requirements for Design Engineer:
- Experience with sheet metal and welded assembly design.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or related field.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and technical drawing software, such as Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations for mechanical components and assemblies.
- Experience creating drawings, BOMs, and fabrication documentation.
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding of material behavior in welded and sheet metal structures.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to high-quality work.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience with cargo tank or trailer/vehicle systems.
- Knowledge of regulatory or industry standards (e.g., ASME BPVC, 49 CFR, FDA, ASTM).
- Familiarity with production and manufacturing processes in bulk liquid or transportation equipment.
