Description for Embedded Systems & Signal Processing Engineer:
The Embedded Systems & Signal Processing Engineer focuses on developing and advancing the electronics, firmware, and signal processing algorithms behind the company’s sensing systems. The engineer will design hardware and embedded software that interpret complex optical signals to measure gas concentrations at extremely precise levels. Day to day, the work involves integrating photodetectors and lasers, optimizing low-noise circuits, and refining data processing methods to enhance detection accuracy. The role also includes conducting detection experiments, analyzing system performance, and collaborating with other engineers to improve the sensitivity, selectivity, and overall reliability of next-generation gas sensing products.
Responsibilities for Embedded Systems & Signal Processing Engineer:
- Operate as the internal lead for laser driver electronics, photodetector interfaces and optical sensors
- Analog and digital circuit design for high-speed signal acquisition
- PCB design and layout for low-noise, high-frequency applications
- Develop firmware for data acquisition, signal conditioning and communication within our real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Develop and execute gas detection experiments, using tools to collect data and analyze spectral features. Conduct end-to-end system validation with known gas mixtures.
- Develop gas characterization algorithms and calibration protocols for field deployment.
Requirements for Embedded Systems & Signal Processing Engineer:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics or a related field.
- 1-5+ years in embedded systems or signal processing for scientific instrumentation.
- Prior work with laser-based measurement systems, spectroscopy or environmental sensors.
- Familiarity with spectral analysis, optical cavities and spectroscopy principles.
- Experience with tunable diode lasers, optical filters, optical alignment and mirror reflectivity characterization.
- Proficiency in tools and languages used for data acquisition, experiment automation, signal conditioning and communication protocols (MATLAB, Python or LabVIEW and C/C++/I2C/UART).
- Hands-on experience in electronics hardware design. Altium Designer experience favorable.
- Ability to collaborate across multiple functions of engineering, including manufacturing.
- Clear technical documentation and communication skills.
