Food Safety Manager (Direct Hire)

Annual Salary Range: $110,000 - $150,000 plus discretionary bonus. Individual salaries are based on education, geographic location, and alignment to the market data.
SUMMARY:
The key responsibilities of a Food Safety Manager are to ensure that the business complies with all relevant food safety standards and codes, keeping the food safety program up-to-date, ensuring all staff know how and when to manage records and performing checks on the business for any breaches of food safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under direction of the VP of Manufacturing and Plant Manager, oversee all aspects of the Food Safety programs.
- Manage HACCP / HARPC programs to be compliant to FSMA standards and expectations.
- Complete special projects as assigned by the VP of Manufacturing and Plant Manager.
- Food safety initiatives with UW-Madison
- Streamline food safety programs between the facilities, specifically:
- SQF documentation
- Food Safety Plans
- Key service providers
- The onboarding of the Jefferson facility
- SQF certification bodies
- Usage and topics of the Alchemy Training System
- Promote Food Safety Culture events and training
- Advance New Hire training and competencies
- Provide food safety guidance, training and advice to multiple plants
- Upon request, provide food safety guidance to the Quality Manager.
- Assist plant management in overseeing compliance to corporate quality procedures, regulatory programs, GMPs, food security, traceability, recall, revising procedures as necessary.
- Certified SQF practitioner, Preventive Controls Qualified Individual, and HACCP Coordinator
- Responsible for development and maintenance of Food Safety Plans
- Verify and validate the effectiveness of internal food safety programs and preventive controls.
- Communicate with suppliers when a food safety issue arises.
- Develop and communicate plant-wide and corporate-wide food safety policy.
- Primary contact for FDA, WDA, AIB, SQF and customer audits.
- Ensure compliance to GFCO, Non-GMO Project and Vegan certifications.
- Investigate and respond to consumer complaints, consumer inquiries and customer questionnaires in coordination with KSU Consumer Services Department and KC’s Foreign Sales Department.
- Demonstrate practical knowledge of all applicable food safety and quality management systems
- Develop, implement and maintain food safety programs such as SQF
- Responsible to oversee and/or inspect non-conforming ingredient and packaging, conduct environmental swabbing, review foreign material findings, investigate pest control issues or any other non-compliances to established food safety programs and determine root cause when problems arise.
- Manage Incident Reports to drive effective and complete Corrective Actions
- Manage the Incident Investigation Team.
- Work closely with Maintenance before and after equipment installation / repair to ensure that product has not been compromised in the process
- Provide technical assistance to Marketing and Planning
- Assist FSD by providing food safety documentation for international customers
- Assist KSU in providing food safety documentation for domestic customers
- Provides quarterly food safety awareness training to all personnel
- Promote activities and awareness training to strengthen our Food Safety Culture
- Provides basic food safety training to contractors, and other contract service providers
- Member of the Food Defense Team.
- Certified Food Defense Coordinator
- Oversees our internal inspection program for Food Safety, trains and works with internal auditors to enhance inspection / auditing skills.
- Leader of the Food Safety core and departmental teams.
- Leader of the Recall Advisory Committee.
- Backup person for the QC Manager
- Responsible to manage the work assignments and training of food safety staff members to ensure conduct consistent with company policies and procedures, regulatory compliance and food safety programs
- Facilitate daily Operations Meeting
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Agriculture, and/or Life Science or equivalent to a four-year university or technical school.
- Credential experience/training in food-related industry (i.e. SQF certified)
- 5 + years of transferrable Food Safety Management experience
- Willingness to travel 25%
