Description for IT Systems Engineer:
The Information Technology Systems Engineer will support the development and deployment of scientific and engineering software applications for our client. This role involves administering multi-platform operating systems and networks, managing cybersecure infrastructure, overseeing on-premises and cloud compute operations, and providing technical support for both staff and customers. They will utilize their expertise in Linux and Windows environments, scripting for high-performance computing, and knowledge of cybersecurity protocols, the Systems Engineer ensures compliance with the client’s Quality Assurance program while contributing to product development, testing, documentation, and customer engagement.
Responsibilities for IT Systems Engineer:
- Support management of software systems and hardware infrastructure.
- Administer network and multi-platform operating systems.
- Manage cybersecure infrastructure and compute job operations (on-prem and cloud).
- Provide IT technical assistance and support for the client’s staff.
- Provide customer-facing technical support, perform troubleshooting tasks, and resolve issues related to production software deployment.
- Communicate effectively and document technical content and verification procedures within a software Quality Assurance program.
- Support innovative or novel ideas for improving software development and production environments.
- Participate in product development and testing of products and applications.
- Support and troubleshoot software configuration and interface issues.
- Document processes and application instructions.
- Participate in meetings, customer visits, and other company events.
- Generate innovative ideas to maintain the client’s leading edge.
Requirements for IT Systems Engineer:
- Demonstrated aptitude in computing system and network administration for
- production-level scientific/engineering software applications
- Proficient with system administration in Linux and Windows operating environments; extending to virtual machines and containerized deployment
- Extensive scripting experience required for multi-processor, parallel, and batched compute job management
- Knowledgeable in cybersecurity methods and processes; familiarity with nuclear cyber security requirements
- Experience with Electronic Document/Records Management Systems, software quality control, and software configuration management processes
- Familiar with cloud providers (e.g. AWS, Azure), virtualization (e.g. VMWare), and backup solutions
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Azure Active Directory/Entra ID, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, Active Directory Federation Services, and other centralized identity stores
- Familiar with database development and administration
- BS + 5 yrs or MS + 3 years in Software Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or other suitable technical area
- Experience and understanding of a customer-oriented service environment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in teams
- Proactive and able to work according to strategic direction
