Mechanical Design Engineer (Direct Hire)

Salary Range: $80,000 - $115,000. Individual compensation is based on education, geographic location, and alignment to market data.
Description for Mechanical Design Engineer:
The Mechanical Design Engineer will lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of industrial exhaust and fume removal products. This role is heavily focused on hands-on product design and requires an engineer who can take ownership of projects from concept through production. The position works closely with fabrication and production teams to develop practical, cost-effective solutions while optimizing product performance, manufacturability, and reliability. The ideal candidate combines strong design expertise with a proactive, problem-solving mindset and a passion for developing products that can be efficiently manufactured and assembled.
Responsibilities for Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Lead the design and development of new products and improvements to existing product lines.
- Create and manage 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks.
- Design for manufacturability, including sheet metal fabrication, welding, and machining processes.
- Collaborate closely with fabrication and production teams to ensure practical and cost-effective designs.
- Own projects from concept through prototyping, testing, validation, and production release.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design and production issues on the shop floor.
- Optimize designs for performance, durability, quality, and ease of manufacturing.
- Maintain engineering documentation, bills of materials (BOMs), and revision control processes.
- Provide technical design support to sales and application engineering teams.
- Participate in product testing, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure project objectives, schedules, and quality requirements are achieved.
Requirements for Mechanical Design Engineer:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of design engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong proficiency with SolidWorks.
- Proven experience designing products for fabrication and assembly.
- Experience with sheet metal fabrication, welding, and machining processes.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of design projects from concept through production.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with manufacturing and production teams in a hands-on environment.
Preferred
- Experience with industrial air handling systems.
- Experience with industrial exhaust systems.
- Experience with fume removal or ventilation systems.
- Experience supporting and working directly with shop floor operations.
