Description for Mechanical Engineer III:
The Mechanical Engineer III plays a key role in leading product development efforts across the full lifecycle, working closely with cross functional engineering teams, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to deliver high quality mechanical designs. This position supports team leadership by assisting in development planning and growth initiatives while contributing directly to the design of components and systems through detailed drawings, 3D models, and supporting documentation. The role provides technical direction to resolve design and development challenges, supports multiple projects simultaneously, and helps strengthen team capabilities through mentoring and review processes. It ensures designs meet manufacturability, performance, and customer requirements while driving problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives for both new and existing products. The engineer also collaborates with suppliers to understand capabilities and troubleshoot issues, supports technicians during product development and validation, and serves as a subject matter expert within the engineering team.
Responsibilities for Mechanical Engineer III:
- Lead collaboration with cross functional engineering teams, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to drive product design across the full product lifecycle
- Support the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor in team development, planning, and growth initiatives
- Develop mechanical products including drawings, 3D models, and supporting documentation in compliance with quality standards
- Create and maintain design documentation, risk assessments, and development plans
- Provide technical leadership to identify, define, and resolve engineering, design, and development issues across multiple projects
- Mentor and support team members through reviews, coaching, and skill development efforts
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to ensure designs meet performance, manufacturability, and service requirements
- Lead problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives for both new development and existing products
- Communicate with suppliers to understand capabilities, processes, requirements, and support troubleshooting efforts
- Provide mechanical engineering support to technicians and testers during product development and qualification activities
- Serve as a subject matter expert within the engineering team based on established competencies
- Support additional engineering and organizational responsibilities as needed
Requirements for Mechanical Engineer III:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study, or equivalent combination of training and experience; an advanced degree (Masters, etc) preferred.
- 6 to 10 years of work experience developing new product designs in similar industry is required; medical device experience highly preferred.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts such as tolerance analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and plastic injection molded part design highly preferred.
- Advanced competency using CAD modeling tools for solid and surface modeling. Knowledge of SolidWorks CAD preferred.
- Intermediate computer competency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and business specific software (e.g. ERP, eQMS, CAD).
Nice to Have:
- Experience in medical device or regulated industry environments
- Background in finite element analysis (FEA)
- Experience with plastic injection molded part design
- Experience with SolidWorks
- Familiarity with ERP systems and quality management systems such as eQMS
- Experience mentoring or coaching junior engineers
- Background contributing to continuous improvement initiatives on mature products
