Description for PCB Designer:
The PCB Layout Designer will play a critical role in translating electrical designs into manufacturable printed circuit boards, working closely with clients, electrical engineers, and cross-functional teams. This individual will be responsible for component placement, multi-layer routing, and high-speed PCB layout, ensuring designs meet signal integrity, crosstalk, and impedance requirements. They will maintain and develop PCB libraries, generate complete manufacturing documentation, and provide layout estimates based on project scope. The role requires advanced proficiency in PCB CAD tools (Altium, PADS, Xpedition) and the ability to adapt across product types, including military, medical, consumer, and industrial applications. The designer will also lead layout reviews, mentor junior team members, and collaborate closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure high-quality, production-ready designs.
Responsibilities for PCB Designer:
- Manage and maintain PCB libraries, including PADS, ensuring up-to-date and accurate components.
- Develop comprehensive PCB layout solutions, from component placement to final routing.
- Lead PCB layout reviews, providing guidance on high-speed design considerations such as crosstalk, signal integrity, and best practice strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional product development teams to support design and engineering objectives.
- Prepare quotes for PCB layout projects based on customer requirements and engineering guidance.
- Stay current with high-speed design techniques, including PCB material selection, layer stack-up, and manufacturing guidelines, applying them to ongoing designs.
- Assist in electronic component selection and qualification in coordination with the engineering team.
- Generate complete engineering documentation to support PCB manufacturing and assembly, including schematics, bills of materials, and assembly drawings.
- Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team of electrical, hardware, and mechanical engineers.
- Participate in departmental and program meetings to maintain team alignment and project continuity.
- Promote a positive and collaborative work environment, mentoring junior team members and supporting colleagues at all levels.
Requirements for PCB Designer:
- 10+ years of PCB layout experience in a professional engineering environment.
- Advanced proficiency in PCB CAD tools (Altium, PADS, or Xpedition).
- Experience with multi-layer PCB layouts, including component placement and routing.
- High-speed PCB design exposure (signal integrity, crosstalk, impedance considerations).
- Experience creating PCB manufacturing documentation (BOMs, fabrication outputs, assembly drawings).
- Experience quoting PCB layout projects based on customer requirements or engineering scope.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with customers
