Description for Product Engineer:
The Product Engineer will lead the design, testing, and installation of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems for major OEMs in our client’s industries. The Product Engineer will manage new product development projects, create design documentation, and ensure project schedules and financial goals are met. The Product Engineer will be reviewing customer specifications, supporting existing products through redesigns and cost reductions, providing technical support across departments, and conducting product testing.
Responsibilities for Product Engineer:
- Serve as project leader for new product development with responsibilities such as creating concept sketches, detailed drawings, and other project related documentation as outlined by internal procedures and dictated by project leader.
- Accountable for achieving critical project schedules and financial goals.
- Review and respond to customer specifications.
- Support existing products through redesign projects, cost reductions, manufacturing support, product/process problem resolution, failure analysis, and customer support. This includes making drawing and bill of material changes as needed per the engineering change procedure.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing, purchasing, sales, quality, and other departments.
- Participate in the design and maintenance of production tools and fixtures.
- Responsible for product testing including creation of a test plan that meets customer qualification criteria, instrumentation and preparation of test samples and equipment, performing or supervising the performance of the testing, and communication of the results in a detailed test report.
- Communicate project progress to supervisor, customer, and other members of the organization using design reviews, periodic status reports, and other project planning/reporting means.
- Ability to occasionally travel domestically and abroad to conduct technical meetings with the customer, perform product testing and support the new product sales team.
Requirements for Product Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) from four-year college or university in engineering or engineering technology, preferably in the mechanical or electrical fields of study. Practical experience and product knowledge may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Computer applications related to the work include PTC Creo and Microsoft Office products.
- ISO requirements and procedures.
- Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and related tools such as FMEAs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
