Description for Project Engineer:

The Project Engineer will support the Specialty Products Group by estimating work, launching new projects, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, collaboration with customers, and the ability to manage project execution from concept to production. The Project Engineer will play a key role in manufacturability improvements, cost control, and operational readiness for new product introductions. 

Responsibilities for Project Engineer: 

  • Interface with customers to gather project requirements, resolve open tasks, and provide project updates.
  • Perform estimating work to support quoting of new projects.
  • Enter and manage accurate data in the ERP system, including routings and bill of materials.
  • Complete required project documentation (process maps, layouts, SOPs, etc.).
  • Support the design and engineering of new fixturing and work holdings.
  • Order consumables as required to support ongoing projects.
  • Develop and improve testing procedures to ensure quality standards.
  • Support built-in quality initiatives across projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering and customers to improve manufacturability of parts.
  • Communicate and escalate trends, issues, or concerns as needed.
  • Monitor gross margin variance reporting and drive corrective actions.
  • Lead cross-functional operational readiness processes for New Project Introductions
  • Track and oversee open tasks to ensure deliverables are completed on time.
  • Generate reports to provide clear visibility and accountability.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements for Project Engineer: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Knowledge of capital project management.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining and weld processes.
  • Experience with Vertical Mills, Machining Centers, and Lathe equipment.
  • Fixture design experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles with proven ability to implement improvements.
  • Ability to read and interpret part drawings, and implement changes to improve manufacturability.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office.

 

Nice to Have:

  • Welding manufacturing knowledge 
  • Fixture design experience preferred.
