Description for Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the mechanical design of low-voltage switchgear and switchboard systems, drive the development of reliable and innovative power distribution solutions while ensuring compliance with industry standards. They will own mechanical design efforts from concept through release, establish and maintain design standards and best practices, review and approve technical documentation, collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable, mentor junior engineers, and support continuous improvement initiatives across products and processes.
Responsibilities for Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Lead mechanical design projects for low-voltage switchgear and switchboard systems from concept through release.
- Develop innovative and reliable power distribution solutions while ensuring compliance with UL standards (UL 891/1558) and other applicable codes.
- Establish, maintain, and improve mechanical design standards and best practices.
- Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineering, manufacturing, sales, and quality to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with customer needs.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers on the design team.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across products, processes, and design practices.
Requirements for Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer:
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical design for power distribution equipment or low-voltage switchgear/switchboard systems
- Strong knowledge of UL standards (UL 891/1558) and other relevant codes
- Expertise in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
- Experience with sheet metal design and manufacturing processes
- Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (electrical, manufacturing, sales, quality)
