Sr. Mechanical Engineer (Direct Hire)
Marana, Arizona
Job Requisition: 7461
Description for Sr. Mechanical Engineer:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a critical role in leading the full product development lifecycle—from concept and prototyping to fabrication, testing, and release—of precision flow control and measurement instrumentation. This role is highly collaborative, working closely with cross-functional internal teams and external suppliers to develop innovative mechanical solutions such as sensors, proportional valves, flow bodies, and enclosures. Using advanced 3D CAD modeling, DFMEA, and hands-on engagement with manufacturing processes, the engineer will design components that are both innovative and manufacturable. Additional responsibilities include leading design verification and validation efforts, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring high product quality across diverse industries like aerospace, biotech, and healthcare. This is a hands-on leadership role for a technically sharp, creative, and process-savvy engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
Responsibilities for Sr. Mechanical Engineer:
- Design and develop advanced flow measurement and control components—including sensors, valves, flow bodies, and enclosures—to expand the company’s mechanical product line.
- Take ownership of complex, high-impact design projects that require both technical depth and creative problem-solving.
- Oversee the engineering and production of components using diverse manufacturing methods such as molding, welding, etching, stamping, machining, and extrusion.
- Partner with external vendors (e.g., machine shops, welders, etching services, material suppliers) to prototype and iterate on new designs.
- Lead DFMEA efforts and evaluate designs to ensure manufacturability, reliability, and production efficiency.
- Create, analyze, and refine 3D CAD models using SolidWorks, with a focus on performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Work closely with Sales, Marketing, and cross-functional engineering teams to capture and define product requirements.
- Plan and execute verification and validation testing protocols to ensure new designs meet performance and regulatory standards.
- Drive product enhancements and redesign initiatives, supporting the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process as needed.
- Manage design schedules and activities to ensure projects stay on track and aligned with development milestones.
- Champion continuous improvement efforts, with a focus on enhancing product quality and reducing process inefficiencies.
- Coordinate product testing strategies in partnership with test engineering, production, and service teams to ensure successful implementation on the manufacturing floor.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical engineers, fostering team development and engineering excellence.
- Support additional engineering initiatives and tasks as needed to meet departmental and company goals.
Requirements for Sr. Mechanical Engineer:
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, particularly within flow instrumentation or component development.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to contribute technically within a collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with a proven track record of translating complex technical ideas across multidisciplinary teams.
- Deep expertise in experimental setup, test planning, execution, and data analysis.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities and shifting timelines across simultaneous projects.
- Skilled in producing technical documentation, including detailed reports, specifications, and procedures.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
- Ability to define engineering best practices, develop technical standards, and lead large-scale development initiatives.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
Nice to Have:
- A Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing environments, including assembly and process interaction.
- Solid experience with 3D CAD systems (preferably SolidWorks), including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and database management.
- Familiarity with ASME B31.3 design codes and their practical application.
- Exposure to engineering simulation and analysis tools such as MathCAD, Simulink, LabView, Python, or finite element analysis (FEA).
- Training or practical background in the following areas:
- Process control instrumentation
- Precision metrology
- Data acquisition and statistical analysis
- Calibration systems and methodology
- Fluid dynamics and simulation
