Description for Systems Analyst II:
The System Analyst II is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operation and maintenance of all city systems supported by the Information Technology Department which may include law enforcement or public safety systems.
Responsibilities for Systems Analyst II:
- Acts as a liaison between customers and end users, in order to assist in the implementation of program changes, updates, corrections and other system fixes.
- Responsible for routine and scheduled backups and assisting with updates, patches, or configuration changes.
- Investigates and corrects data errors, including requests for system modifications by the vendor to enhance data capturing processes and prevent future occurrences.
- Works with the vendor and IT teams to develop detailed plan to prevent application and performance related issues.
- Recommends and performs application tailoring, including installation options, menu items, distribution scripts and content, version management, query capabilities, message switch formats and log management.
- Creates and maintains tools and scripts needed to automate administration tasks.
- Performs application user account creation and conformance with the Active Directory accounts.
- Manages the user security privileges in the software.
- Verifies the integrity and availability of all hardware, resources, systems, and key processes. Responsible for audits of systems and software to identify potential issues.
- Documents issue resolution in the Help Desk system and implement best practices and procedures.
- Provides detailed analysis and feedback to management for escalated issues.
- Participates in local, state, and national “user groups” of the same suite of supported applications to remain current with common issues and solutions.
- May act in a project manager capacity in team projects and guides teams in the successful installation and implementation of computerized systems.
- May provide support for Law Enforcement Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), and Mobile Computer Terminals (MCTs).
- May troubleshoot dispatch system and hardware issues and remain involved in resolution process.
- May troubleshoot National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) issues and remain involved in resolution process.
- Performs other duties assigned as related to the position.
Requirements for Systems Analyst II:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related fields from an accredited college or university or at least four (4) years of experience in a related field, preferably in a municipality; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license.
- Requires the ability to approach problems systematically, analyzing and evaluating solutions.
- Requires excellent technical troubleshooting and system/application problem solving support skills.
- Requires working knowledge with some or all of the following technologies: SAN, Cisco
- Requires an understanding of Microsoft SQL Server queries and transactions, SSRS, Crystal Reports, BI tools, or working knowledge of integrating applications.
- Requires the ability to integrate systems from multiple City information system departments and/or divisions.
- Requires the ability to keep up on technological advancements and make proactive recommendations for application and network upgrades and new computerized systems.
- Requires experience maintaining, administrating, and supporting enterprise system software.
- Requires the ability to install, move and maintain hardware.
- Requires ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
