Description for Technical Program Manager, Data Center Operations:
The Data Center Operations Program Manager is responsible for leading operational excellence initiatives across hyperscale data center infrastructure, overseeing the full lifecycle from site design through steady-state operations. This role establishes frameworks for smooth transitions, incident management, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement across multiple data center locations. The manager partners with cross-functional teams to define operational standards, optimize workflows, ensure reliability, and provide visibility into key metrics for executive leadership.
Responsibilities for Technical Program Manager, Data Center Operations:
- Collaborate with design, construction, and due diligence teams to integrate operational requirements early in the data center lifecycle, establishing standards for maintainability and efficiency.
- Develop and own the end-to-end operations handover process, including gates, acceptance criteria, and sign-off procedures.
- Coordinate cross-functional handover activities, including training, documentation, systems access, and knowledge transfer, resolving blockers to ensure timely and high-quality transitions.
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for critical data center operations, with metrics to measure adoption, execution quality, and efficiency.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflows, reduce repetitive tasks, and standardize operations across sites.
- Drive stability improvement and incident management programs, including post-incident reviews with root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
- Oversee preventive maintenance programs, as-built reviews, and operational drills to reduce unplanned outages and test emergency readiness.
- Develop dashboards and reporting to provide visibility into stability metrics, incident trends, and CAPA (corrective and preventive action) programs.
- Collaborate with Product, Infrastructure Engineering, Supply Chain, and Site Operations teams, providing updates and recommendations to executive leadership.
Requirements for Technical Program Manager, Data Center Operations:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of program management experience in mission-critical environments; 5+ years in data center operations, IT infrastructure, or facilities management.
- Strong understanding of data center systems, including power, cooling, networking, compute, and facilities, with a proven track record managing complex, cross-functional programs.
- Experience developing operational processes and best practices using incident, problem, and change management frameworks (e.g., ITIL).
- Ability to travel up to 25%.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to leverage operational data for improvements and present to executive audiences.
Preferred Qualifications for Technical Program Manager, Data Center Operations:
- Master’s degree or equivalent advanced education.
- 5+ years program management experience with 7+ years in hyperscale data center operations.
- PMP, PgMP, ITIL, or Six Sigma certification.
- Experience at hyperscale cloud providers or large colocation operators with deep knowledge of data center systems and commissioning processes.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, or TIA-942.
- Strong track record of leading operational improvements, stability programs, and cross-site consistency initiatives.
