The highest-paying jobs, according to the Glassdoor report, are in the technology and healthcare sectors. Physician is listed as the highest-paying job, paying a median base salary of $193,415. While this amount may look high, top specialists and surgeons earn many multiples more than this amount. Pharmacy manager, dentist and pharmacist also lead the list with a median base compensation over $120,000. Unfortunately, they do not include title designations for fast-growing sub-markets within the healthcare space, such as life sciences, which entails working on cures for cancer and rare diseases. In this sector, companies are aggressively fighting for talent and paying handsome salaries to attract experienced professionals.
There are some interesting, newly emerging and fast-growing careers. The title of “data scientist” placed No. 22 on the list, with a median salary of $97,027.
Sal Khan, president of financial search at Howard-Sloan Search, says that data analytics—the analysis and management of data, including titles such as data scientist, data architect and analytics manager—is one of the fastest-growing sectors.
